A journey through history and traditions of our territory.
Our area, between lakes and mountains, offers a wide range of museums and permanent exhibitions of great tourist, cultural, and often educational value, ranging from art to archaeology, ethnography, crafts, natural sciences, mineralogy, history or literature.
The museum treasures between Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Lake Mergozzo and the Ossola Valleys
In addition to the larger museum centres, three local associations are dedicated to networking the many smaller museums in the area, whose diversity adds to the cultural offer of the piedmontese Lakes District. They are the Rete Museale Alto Verbano, the Ecomuseo del Lago d’Orta e Mottarone, and the Associazione Musei d’Ossola.
Among the main museum sites for families we recommend the following:
MUSEO DELL'OMBRELLO E DEL PARASOLE (Gignese): umbrellas of all shapes and sizes in the most charming of exhibitions. Lots to see and learn.
MUSEO RODARI (Omegna): an enchanting Story!
MUSEO DELLA PESCA (Isola dei Pescatori, Stresa): stories of the lake, including music and fish
MUSEO MEINA (Meina): Lake Maggiore Cultural Park!
CASA DEL PROFUMO (Santa Maria Maggiore): a journey through scents, aromas, and fragrant allusions that will lead you to discover Eau de Cologne
MUSEO DELLO SPAZZACAMINO (santa Maria Maggiore): as black as a chimney sweep? Not always...
MUSEO DI SCIENZE NATURALI MELLERIO ROSMINI (Domodossola): an extensive collection of 19th century specimens including animals, insects, plants and minerals
MUSEO DELL'ARTE DEL CAPPELLO (Ghiffa): hats off!
MUSEO TATTILE DI SCIENZE NATURALI DEL LAGO E DELLA MONTAGNA (Trarego Viggiona): touching nature (Discovering nature with the five senses)
MUSEO ETNOGRAFICO E DELLA SPAZZOLA (Cannero Riviera): stories of the past between the lake and the mountains
