“Stories of the past between the lake and the mountains”
The museum was founded in 1981 on the initiative of high school students and teachers who, with the help of their families, collected numerous objects of local tradition.
The exhibits, divided into four rooms, trace the history of Cannero. The first room shows evidence of associations (the band and Cannero Sportiva), games and pastimes, and memories of the kindergarten.
Then, there is a room with the kitchen furniture and the home of the past, in which a corner testifies to the processing of textiles, from hemp to wool, and the breeding of silkworms. A room illustrates traditional trades: forestry and carpentry, chestnut growing, blacksmithing, tools used in agriculture, stockbreeding, and fishing.
The last room houses a precious 18th-century loom and documents, with some tools and a series of finished products, the industrial activity of the Spazzolificio Verbania, which operated in Cannero from the end of the 19th century until 1970.
