MTB ROUTE: Mountain pastures in Varzo
SEASON From June to October
A particularly picturesque round trip on tarmac and unmade farm roads. The route starts from the train station of Varzo. Take the road that leads to the centre of the town, with the beautiful Church dedicated to Saint George and the medieval tower, and then climb to Cattagna. From here take the small road that rises to the Oratory of Durogna and then passes through Casafranchi and Casagrande to Dreuza (alternatively Dreuza can be reached by a tarmac road that passes through Coggia). From Dreuza the farm road continues with numerous hairpin bends up to Solcio and the excellent Rifugio Crosta (Crosta Refuge). Immediately behind the shelter take the unmade track that with some ups and downs leads to Alpe Quatè and Alpe Moiero. At Moiero continue along the farm road that immediately becomes tarmac again and drops to Dorcia. Then with some very steep hairpin bends you come to the provincial Varza - San Domenico road. From here to Gebbo you can descend along the provincial road or cut the hairpin bends along the old mule track which passes from San Bernardo. From Gebbo you return to Varzo along the provincial road.
