When a house tells the story
The Archaeological Museum of the Val Grande National Park is one of the museum cells of the Regional Ecomuseum of Soapstone and Stonemasonry, recognised by the Piedmont Region in 2007. An archaeological and ethnographic itinerary with materials from the necropolises of Val Vigezzo, it illustrates ancient and traditional methods, techniques, and artefacts made of soapstone and more. The historic building, once the seat of the Magistrate's Court, which still preserves 16th-century frescoes and an ancient stone fireplace on the mezzanine floor, and the structures of an old dairy in the basement, houses a museum itinerary that tells the story of the earliest history of Val Vigezzo and Val Grande through local archaeological finds - in particular from the Roman and Late Antique necropolis of Craveggia - and collections from Malesco, Toceno, and Santa Maria Maggiore.
