The Cannobina Valley is also officially part of the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT, a trail of Giant Benches, with over 400 of them throughout Europe. This is number 450!
The aim is to showcase the riches of the Cannobina Valley, which must be crossed in its entirety from the lake to reach the Giant Bench. This will lead many walkers to discover beautiful views and will be an opportunity to visit the many small and original villages, where immense riches are preserved. Frescoes, paintings, altars in churches and oratories, paintings on chapels, facades of ancient buildings, and terraces with dry stone walls that still withstand the harsh weather, conveying to us the now-lost craftsmanship of our predecessors.
The bench can be reached from the square in the village of Orasso by following the steps and small paths that cross it and lead to the oratory of the Madonna del Sasso, which is part of the "places of the heart" listed by the FAI. The large, bright green bench stands on a panoramic terrace just above the small church.
Visiting bench enthusiasts can have their passport stamped at the Albergo Belvedere in Orasso, in Via Cursolo, 4, near the bench; the U.S. Orasso (based in Via Vittorio Emanuele III No. 15, Orasso) can also issue stamps.
