Description of the itinerary
Vogogna is the best preserved medieval town of our province. Its restoration has revealed architectural aspects of great value: the castle, praetorian palace, churches, old houses, the structure of the village and the fortress known as the Rocca. From the bus stop at Dresio take the Via San Pietro road until you reach the church of St Peter that dates back to 1276: the churchyard contains a fountain with a “Celtic mask”. Going through a lane you come out on the provincial road in front of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli (5 min), after which continue on the sidewalk to Piazza San Carlo to take Via De Regibus up to the parish church of 1896. Then proceed along Vicolo della Motta and Vicolo sotto le Mura. At the crossroads with Via Teatro, take the Via Sopra le Mura to Casa Losetti. From Piazza Marconi take the road leading to the centre of the village, to the praetorian palace (22 min), then proceed along Via Roma until you reach via S. Martino that leads to the castle (5 min). From the castle take the mule track leading up to Genestredo (15 min) proceeding along the path named Sentiero Natura del Parco Nazionale Val Grande, then turn right towards the fortress known as the “Rocca” (11 min). Returning to Genestredo (11 min) you can stop for a snack at the club, then proceed up to the church of St. Martin and from there along a paved road to the Oratory of San Zenone (15 min). Walk down to Giavinello (10 min) and then along a mule track to return to Piazza San Carlo (8 min). Going back towards the village, from the church square walk down to the bus stop on the provincial road (10 min).
