Punto of Arrival
Mount Giove 1,298 metres a.s.l.

All year round. This excursion can usually be practiced even after heavy snow.

Road access
To reach the starting point of the excursion from Verbania-Intra, take the main road that runs along Lake Maggiore in the direction of Switzerland. When you reach Cannobio, continue for another kilometre to Nizzoglio then turn left to Sant’Agata, which is approx. 3 km away.

Description of the itinerary
From the car park of Sant’Agata, proceed to the church square, the excursion starts from the portico on the right. A beautiful mule track, surrounded by a dense wood of beech and chestnut trees leads to the small church of San Luca at an altitude of 687 metres a.s.l. From there follow the signs until you reach an unpaved road and after a few hundred metres head left to cross the fields of the panoramic village of Monti Marcalone at 860 metres a.s.l. Return to the unpaved road that rises steeply into a pinewood, at first dense but then increasingly more sparse, which will take you to Pian delle Betulle at an altitude of 1085 metres a.s.l. Ignoring the deviation for Rombiago, continue on the unpaved road for an easy walk to the panoramic peak of Mount Giove at an altitude of 1,298 metres a.s.l, with its distinctive summit cross. Descend following the same itinerary taken for the climb up.
