Masera and its hamlets

Excursion area

Spring and summer

Road access
To reach the starting point, take the A26 motorway following the signs for “Sempione – Confine di Stato” and leave at the exit signposted for “Valle Vigezzo”. Masera is the first town that you will encounter.

Description of the itinerary
The route takes you along the mule trails linking together the hamlets exposed to the sun that make up the town of Masera. The fine houses and country life are in harmony with the environment that is still cultivated to this day. This itinerary includes a trip on the charming train known as the “trenino della Vigezzina”. From the station of Masera proceed to the church square (5 min), where the A6, A8, A10 and M0 trails begin. Follow the signs up to a chapel (8 min) and, leaving the A10 trail on your right, turn left onto the mule track signposted A6-A8 to the hamlet of Ranco (27 min). Go down on a short stretch of paved road until you reach the mule track that descends to Località Case Brencio (8 min), before reaching "Ville" (3 min), from where a dirt road leads to Madonna delle Grazie oratory (16 min).
Continue on the dirt road returning to the area cultivated with vineyards, and on reaching the crossroads, continue to the hamlet of Rogna (12 min). From here, go through the village till you come to the hamlet of Cresta (4 min), where you can eat at the “Divin Porcello” trattoria. From the hamlet of Cresta proceed to Rivoira (10 min), with its newly renovated furnace, go past the picturesque square and after a few minutes take the road/mule track that runs alongside some elegant villas.
Cross the paved road and, leaving behind a chapel (24 min), proceed alongside an old, renovated building and continue along the mule track to return to the church of Masera (8 min)
