Formazza Valley (Pomatt)

Excursion area

From June to September

Road access
To reach the starting point, take the A26 motorway in the direction of “Sempione – Confine di Stato”. Follow the signs for Crodo, Premia and Formazza.

Description of the itinerary
The most beautiful and powerful of the waterfalls in the Alps: Toce Falls, with a drop of 143 metres and a 60-metre wide front, measured at the base, is the second highest waterfall in Europe. RIALE - Herbach: above the waterfall, the flat valley continues to Riale, where the alpine pasture reigns supreme. In the quiet, peaceful valley, on a small promontory, stands the luminous church erected as a memorial to the oratory of Morasco, buried under the waters of dam Morasco. Take the asphalt road from the car park in Riale di Formazza, from where the Walser village of Riale (Dorf) can be observed. Continue on level ground till you reach the U-bends that without too much difficulty lead to the dam. In the winter, GSH SEMPIONE 82 provides toboggans for the downhill stretch to the cross-country track of Riale.

Type of route: asphalt road for pedestrians and wheelchairs.
