To reach the starting point take the road to Domodossola. Follow the signs for Bognanco, and from here continue along the winding road that leads up to San Bernardo. Leave your car near the church.
Description of the itinerary
Leave your car and take the dirt road that leads to a large, unpaved car park.
After crossing the square keeping to the right, climb along the wooded ridge and in just a few minutes you will reach a water intake in reinforced concrete (yellow-red route markings). Just past the small concrete building, the path becomes clear and easy to follow. The climb will not cause any orientation problems as it takes place along the entire eastern ridge of the mountain, beautiful and scenic. At an altitude of about 1,930 metres above sea level, the path leads to the left of the ridge, rejoining it, now devoid of trees, at an altitude of about 2,020 metres a.s.l. Soon you will reach a wide flat saddle at 2,200 metres a.s.l. The ridge is now very wide and keeping to the right edge (yellow-red trailmarkers and cairns), we reach the peak of the Costa del Dente. To reach the top from here follow the ridge meticulously, now more narrow and well defined. From this stretch to the peak of Verosso the path winds through blocks of rock with a steep, grassy side leading to the summit, marked by two large cairns of stones and a small cross.
The climb to Cima Verosso is an excursion offering views of great beauty. The eye is immediately drawn to the south, from the four-thousand-metre trio of the Simplon:
Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Fletschhorn and to the north, beyond the outline of the nearby mountains, the glacial expanse of Mount Leone and further on, in the background, Mount Rosa, of which the four peaks can be seen.
