As of this year, cologne is featured in its Italian "home": on 24 March, the grand opening of the "Casa del Profumo”, the new museum created by the municipality of Santa Maria Maggiore, in the Vigezzo Valley, with the support of important funding and partnerships. It is a multisensory museum that will celebrate the history - all “made in Italy” - of the most famous perfume in the world. Though it is known by the place name “Cologne”, its history is decisively Italian, and this museum opens to tell the story of this substance that originated here in the Vigezzo Valley.
The exhibition area will provide an actual journey into the history of the famous perfume: on the ground floor, visitors will find the herbs and essences used in the original recipe, an elegant info point and shop, and a beautiful greenhouse in a garden, embellished by a small citrus orchard. On the first floor, the primary exhibition space of the museum, an interesting modern layout created by combining innovation and history is available. The exhibition path features technological and multi-sensorial content: 3D animations, collections of objects and original instruments used to make perfumes, precious fabrics (there is a close connection with Vigezzo customs) and sensorial paths featuring touch and smell. The Casa del Profumo will provide the visitor with immersive laboratory activities, and the opportunity to create their own perfume (info: www.santamariamaggiore.info).
