Lake Maggiore 2013 tourist season: all News here!

Lake Maggiore is ready to welcome you, at the start of the 2013 season, which debuts officially on March 16 with the reopening of villas and gardens. A season that this year will be longer: in fact the Borromeo Islands will be open till November 3, one week more than 2012.

The Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto will reopen regularly after the terrible tornado last summer and visitors will have the chance to discover it till November 3 too. By March 16 the Borromeo Palace on Isola Bella will be renewed thanks to the jobs that are affecting the entire exterior façade and that will review the original colours after 400 years. This big restoration work – strongly desired by the Borromeo Family after the damages caused by last summer twister – will repair every inch of exterior surfaces, from the most ancient to the most recent ones dating from last century. The Borromeo's Islands this year will be accessible very easily: “Navigazione Lago Maggiore”, the local public company, triples its races from “Lido di Carciano” (a hamlet of Stresa) to Isola Bella (25 times a day), while boats to all the islands will be 22 with departure every 30 minutes. The three islands will be reachable by private boats too.

From spring to autumn take the chance and discover local food&wine specialities together with our folk traditions thanks to the most important popular feasts and traditional festivals hosted in the mountain and lakes villages. Do not miss the opportunity to have a relaxing, involving and tasty 2013 in the tourist area of the Lakes District.
This year the history of our tourist accommodation will be also celebrated thanks to three important anniversaries: the 150 years of Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees and the Hotel Restaurant by the Toce Waterfall as well as those of the discovery of hot springs in Bognanco Valley. The Lakes District will guest once again international music festivals, such as the Stresa Music Festival (“Settimane Musicali di Stresa e del Lago Maggiore”) and the “Baveno Festival Umberto Giordano”, unusual events hosted in the marvellous Ancient Marble Quarry of Ornavasso and the World Fireworks Championship, “Fiori di Fuoco 2013”, which will enrich next summer nights in exclusive locations. Moreover the boat ride series called “Naviga con Noi dal Lago Maggiore al Ticino” will be organized by the Province Novara at summer beginning to let visitors observe in total relax the luxuriant nature of the Ticino River Park.

Besides the events, discover the nature and many opportunities that this territory, a real "outdoor gym", offers to those who love moving in the open air: lake cruises and travel on board of Vigezzina-Centovalli electric train, hiking, trekking, water sport, golf or just walking in the mountain area around Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta and Lake Mergozzo. For the bravest... exciting activities and breathtaking bob slides aboard of Alpyland Alpine Coaster.

Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta and Lake Mergozzo, together with the Ossola Valleys, are waiting for you to spend your unforgettable holiday in one of more than 700 facilities, including luxury hotels and charming bed and breakfasts, to enjoy the goodness of food tradition looking to innovation, to dive into the history and culture of a gorgeous territory.
