Massino Visconti

Massino Visconti is a lovely town which lies within the territory of the High Vergante, at an altitude of 456 meters in height.

The village is surrounded by mountains until the summit of Mount San Salvatore, nearly 800 meters from where you can admire a beautiful view of the lake or enjoy the silence of the valuable and ancient church that was built.
The town now has nearly 1.200 residents. The town's name probably derives from the name that was given during the first Roman settlement, and seems to be dedicated to Jupiter Maximus. Later, around the year 1134, the country became a feud of the Visconti family from which has taken the final name. That of the Visconti family is a tangible symbol for the urban and architectural development of the town. Massino Visconti Castle is in fact one of the finest examples of noble architecture and it is the central part of the old core. It lies at the entrance of the town and from its stone walls demarcating the garden, you can have an attractive area overlooking Lake Maggiore and the neighbouring areas of Piedmont and Lombardy. Because of its historical, architectural and landscape features, the municipality of Massino Visconti has earned over the years the name "Window on Lake Maggiore”, which better than any other defines exactly, precisely the fine qualities of this center of Vergante area.
