A wonderful lovers’ place, that was celebrated by important literary men and authors throughout the centuries.
Nowadays the romantic lake and its villages represent also an ideal scenery for local inhabitants as foreigers’ wedding ceremonies.
The historical towns of Gozzano, Omegna, Orta S. Giulio - with S. Francesco d’Assisi’s Holy Mount and S. Giulio’s Island, Pettenasco, S. Maurizio d’Opaglio and Pella, that lie directly on the lake, as well as those on the hills of Cusio (the region of Lake Orta) as Ameno, Miasino and Armeno are well-known holiday resorts, where one could find a wide accomodation offer, restaurants and tourist attractions (i.e. romanesque/baroque churches and their paintings, palaces and villas, botanical gardens, museums, etc.).
Then several paths along the lake or over hill slopes for sport in summer as well as elegant cafès for a hot chocholate cup in winter.
Finally, Lake Orta is a precious guardian of ancient legends, first of all that of S. Giulio, who was the founder of many places of worship in the Cusio Region (in particular, the homonymous Basilica on the island) together with his brother S. Giuliano.
