The final competion of the first Italian Extreme Freeride Circuit, starting from March 23 in Northern Italy, is programmed in Macugnaga along the Canalone Marinelli, the first European face in terms of difference in height and the highest in the Alpine Chain.
After the "zero" edition in Macugnaga last year, in 2010 the high level national circuit is officially taking place there. The first competion called "Peak Performance Freeride Cup" is going to be in Livigno on Tuesday, March 23 followed by next appointment in Cortina on April 2-3, then in Sestriere on April 9-10. The date of the final big competition on the slopes of Monte Rosa will be fixed only few days before the race so that organizers will be able to value weather and snow conditions in order to guarantee to athletes maximum safety.
Each qualification step will last two days. A first one will be useful for experts to check competitors' technical skills as well as the condition of the downhill itinerary. On the second one the effective competition will take place.
The circuit is open to male and female participants of age. Those who want to take part in the race by skiing, snowboarding or telemark have to enrol in by entering the website www.freerideitalia.it, where they can also find regulations and other details.
Only the first three positions in the whole league table of at least one of the qualification stages will have access to the final competion, without any distinctions in sex or speciality.
Sure, with a difference in height of 2500 meters, the east face of Monte Rosa is going to be the thrilling scenary of a downhill race full of technical difficulties, able to attract extreme sport fans from all over the world.
