A day at Alpe Devero

Alpe Devero, sun, snow, magic landscapes and runs to suit all the difficulties, the undisputed realm of the snowboarders, the freeride and off ski run. Discovering Devero on a warm spring day is really a great fortune that Giancarlo and I had Saturday, April 3rd.

Wake up early to reach Antigorio valley, where Patrizia waits for us. Alessia is also ready, excited because of the first time she will go up by chairlift. Let Domodossola and the Simplon road proceeding along the way until the exit for Crodo Antigorio - Formazza Valleys. Reached Baceno turn left towards Alpe Devero and we climbed the mountains. A panoramic road, very beautiful, which flows in a valley among the most beautiful of our Alps. At Devero you have to pay a daily parking of 5 € uro, but the officer tells us that at the purchase of the ski pass the cost of the parking ticket will be refunded us.
So we arrive to Alpe Devero and find place in the covered parking. Thanks to the clear day, many people today have decided to spend some time in the snow. Not only skiing but also snowboarding, snowshoeing and skins.
And of course the cross country ski: at Devero there is a ring of 6.5 kilometers that winds on the plain of the Devero and laps the homes of the distinctive town.
The resort is particularly popular with fans of off-piste and, in fact, at the entrance of the village, there is a control equipment Arva: safety first!
We arrive at the ticket office where Patrizia waits for us, she manages the Devero facilities. She takes care of Alessia and accompanies her to withdraw its ski equipment. In addition to skiing, you can rent snowboards, snowshoes, toboggans and snow disks.
Paolo arrives, master of the ski school of Devero, and we are ready to go.
We reach the chairlift Monte Cazzola 1, which by 1639 meters of Devero will bring us up to 1924 meters, the starting point of the other lifts. Left Alessia with the teacher for her ski lesson, we, with Matteo, discover the ski resort.
Devero has 3 ski facilities to reach the summit of Mount Cazzola: you can ski up to an altitude of 2,212 meters on 4 slopes, with a total length of 8 km and infinite paths in the off-piste, in the woods.
We decide immediately to reach the highest point of the area and take the ski lift Cazzola II, rising to a height of 2062 meters, and from there, the ski lift Cazzola III. We arrive at the top of Monte Cazzola, at 2212 meters, and we go down the slope Locciaronda, a red slope length of 1 mile from where you can enjoy an incredible landscape, framed by mountains.
Decrease at an altitude to 2062 meters and take the slope Camosci lunghi. It’s a blue slope, also a km long. The snow is still very beautiful, powdery, and the atmosphere very cheerful. There are many children and so many guys with boards and bicycles, with which they throw on the runs. They perform various developments, but they are all very polite and respectful of other skiers.
Mattia explains that the Jambo Devero Park is very popular and well-equipped for changes and leaps of all kinds.
We take the red slope Cazzola, two kilometers and a half long, and go back to the plain of Devero, ready to go up the chairlift.
Indeed we return once again to the top of Monte Cazzola, where we meet a group all-female: grandmother, daughter, nephew and friend. They come from Intra and have chose Devero for this beautiful day at the end of season.
We descend again and decide to return along the track Pian di Menta, which gives me a couple of walls.
With my usual quietude, overcome difficulties and arrive at the Bar chairlift, where I was meeting a cute little dog, very playful.
Matthias comes back to the ticket office and I reach Alessia and Patrizia at the bar.
Facing directly on the slopes and the chair lift, it is the favorite for a quick snack or lunch between one skiing and the other, to be enjoyed even on sunny terrace. Alpe Devero will be open again in next weekend, then close the 2009 season. Is well worth planning a skiing at Easter.
